Judy Christine Emery 69, a beloved mother, sister, and friend, left this world on July 21, 2025, in her hometown of Philadelphia.
Born on June 16,1956, Judy was the cherished daughter of Junius Marcus Emerson and Martha Jane Lee Emerson. From her earliest days she was a beacon of love and kindness, traits that would define her character throughout her life.
Judy was a proud graduate of Cheyney University, where she received her bachelor’s degree in political science in 1979.
She worked in the social service field to many organizations throughout Philadelphia including Turning Points for Children (then Philadelphia Society for Services to Children). Bethanna, Juvenile Justice Center and Project HOME. One of her most enjoyable roles was leading a program called SKIP (Services to Kids with Incarcerated Parents) where she helped children and their families develop the necessary skills to thrive while addressing their trauma and grief with the goal of ending the cycle of incarceration in their family. Towards the end of her career, Judy returned to education working first at Youth Build Philadelphia charter School and then the School District of Philadelphia until she retired in June 2020.
Judy’s commitment to helping others was evident not just in her career but also in her everyday actions. She dedicated her life to uplifting those around her and embodying the spirit that she held dear. Her work touched countless lives, and her legacy will continue to inspire future generations. Judy taught us the importance of compassion and service, and the profound impact one person can make in the lives of many.
Judy Christine Emerson will be deeply dismissed, but her light will shine on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. May she rest in eternal peace.
