Nola Mitchell Obituary

Nola Nancine Mitchell was born May 3rd, 1935 in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

She grew up in Philadelphia, Pa where she attended Gratz High School in the Philadelphia Public School System.

Upon graduation, she began her sales job at Sears and Roebuck. Nola enjoyed connecting with people and she really loved sales. But there was one thing stronger than her love of sales and that was her love for her childhood sweetheart, the late Timothy Mitchell, Sr. Nola married Timothy, the boy next door, in 1955, just as she promised she would on the day he literally moved in right next door to her childhood home. They had 3 children together and were married for 28 years until Timothy’s passing in 1983.

Later, on one blustery winter day, Nola took on a seasonal job in the sleepwear department of Strawbridge and Clothier. That “season” lasted for 22 years. She was such a phenomenal woman and professional salesperson that some customers refused to shop if she wasn’t available.

In 1962 Nola became one of Jehovah’s Witnesses and enjoyed her field service work. She retired from sales to do her door to door missionary work full time. Sometimes people would open their door and be pleasantly surprised to see their favorite Strawbridge’s salesperson, the lovely Ms. Nola.

Nola loved the arts, music, theater and dancing.

She loved taking photos and loved being in photos as well.
